Lecture on Orkney's Seashells by Dr. Yvonne Beale nee Simpson

Added on 08 September 2014

GATHERING GROATIES AND SEARCHING FOR SPINDLES

Inspired by Robert Rendall’s Orkney Shore, Dr Yvonne Beale has spent a year in search of the shells native to Orkney’s shores – spindles and sunsets, coos and those elusive groatie-buckies. She describes the shells and tells their stories, and the old Norse names and games that can be played with them.

n.b. this talk was well attended and in additional to collection up my 'Orkney Shore' collection I am also interested in the shelly till glacial deposits around Orkney; fossil shells and foreign shells.  I post regularly to the 'British Marine Mollusca' and 'British Shell Collector' pages on facebook.
